About Jamavar
The glory & colors of nature captured skillfully on cloth characterize the Jamavars of Kashmir, India. "Jama" means robe and "var" stands for the yard. Kings or Royal members used to buy the woven fabric by the yard, wearing it as a gown or using it as a Wrap or Shawl. The base of Jamavar is always wool or wool blend. The art of weaving a Jamavar is painstaking & intricate. Several little wooden shuttles of different colors were used for a single weft line of the fabric. Weeks of hard work meant one Jamavar, creating elegant & glorious ensemble fit for one & all.
