Every side of the box (excepting the bottom) is adorned with stunning "Meenakari" motifs - astonishingly beautiful & radiant "Dancing Peacock" & floral arrangements in the most flamboyant bright inlay colors surrounded by intricate petite floral motifs - truly a breathtaking sight. About "Meenakari"

The art of "meena" Inlay work or "Meenakari" has its origin in Persia and was brought to India by the Mughal kings. The filigree work is done using a mixture of various inks and vegetable dyes. Waste glass pieces are mashed in a container to convert it into glass powder. Various colored inks / dyes are mixed with this very fine glass powder. The artisan uses a chisel and a wooden hammer to carve the required design on a piece of wood. A sheet of white metal is placed on top of the carved surface and with the help of wooden hammer the artisan taps the metal onto the wood. Now by using a paintbrush the filigree design in numerous colors is filled to complete the “Meenakari” Inlay craft. Since the color is glass based, the end result is a kaleidoscope of vibrant bright colors.
